What is Unique About Amish Furniture?
Amish furniture is not a limiting, narrow style category as some may be prone to believe. Instead, it is a diverse and varying style of construction that utilizes one or more of four time-tested methods.
According to Modern Bungalow’s Brief History of Amish Furniture, the Amish value community, family businesses, and hard work. Carpentry and farming are often taught at a young age, passed down generationally, and used as a means to support one’s family. The first two of these methods involving the use of dovetail joints or mortise and tenon joinery were created because of “the early Amish tendency to avoid using nails and screws”. Creative Classics adds that two more methods, dado joinery and dowel joinery, were later introduced.
Wood selection is a very important element of the building and customization process of your Amish cabinetry. Amish Cabinets of Texas has an extensive list of choices including hickory, maple, cherry walnut, and mahogany, several of which offer knotty and select options. A second way wood choice will be important in your custom cabinetry experience is the usage of secondary wood or the wood used for drawer boxes. It is important for your furniture maker to know how to make the most durable combination possible while fitting the aesthetic you want for your home.

Why the Houston TX Amish Corner Cabinet?
Well-designed and functional kitchens harken back to the Amish value of community and their tradition of generational carpentry. Unsurprisingly, we spend a large amount of our time in our kitchens. We put away groceries, cook, bake, eat, clean, gather, celebrate, and so much more. Because of this, it is so important that this high-traffic part of the home be functional and inviting.
Our beautiful carpentry provides this high level of functionality without sacrificing your desired aesthetic. We build our cabinets to last, so the generations to come can enjoy them too. Our Houston TX Amish Corner Cabinet, like the one pictured here in our Stylish Custom Kitchen Gallery, is no exception.
The Customization Process
The process begins when you call (281-587-2663) and make an appointment to visit our showroom. We are located at 301 Wells Fargo Drive Suite 7 in Houston TX. Showroom appointments are available between 8:30 am and 5 pm every Monday – Saturday. We ask you questions to assess your wants, needs, and what we’ll have to work with. During this appointment, we will give you a tour of our showroom, material choices, and customization options.
Next, we will design and render an image of our plans for your custom cabinetry. This stage allows you to view a 3D to-scale model of the work we plan to do and allows us to ensure our measurements are correct for your functionality and safety. We will be in contact with you throughout this process so that you can make any changes you like along the way. After you approve of a final design and model we will provide you with a quote. If you decide to move forward, we will begin to work with you on an installation plan.
You have many options when pursuing home renovations. Despite this, we believe our quality, price, and service are unmatched. Because of this, our initial consultation is free, our final designs are yours to keep, and we don’t charge for any revisions you make during the design stage.
A More Detailed Look At Your Options
At Amish Cabinets of Texas, we are able to customize your cabinets down to 1/8 of an inch. We’ll take care of the measuring, but you have plenty of decisions to make. Some important decisions will include shelving, doors, hinges, drawer glides, drawer boxes, and hardware.
One example of how these decisions impact the look and design of your cabinetry is your choice of joint. This is particularly evident in door panel design, which you can see more information about here. We offer three main types of joints – custom Mitler Lock Joints, Dove Tail Drawer Joints, and Square Joints. All will impact the way your finished product will look. Therefore we will discuss in detail what options work best with your other choices, including material and face frames.
So many choices and decisions may seem overwhelming now, but our experts are here to help guide you. We will make sure you are aware of your choices and fully satisfied with your design.
